Graduation Requirements

Update Class of 2021- Class/Credit Requirement & ICAP (no capstone)

To allow for flexibility for students and schools, while maintaining equity as our core identity and rigorous expectations for students, DPS will allow schools to use the graduation requirements from Class of 2020 (as outlined in Board Policy IKF) for graduating students in the Class of 2021. Class of 2021 Graduates must also meet the ICAP requirement. This is reserved for 2021 graduates only.

Graduation Requirements- Class of 2022 & Beyond

DPS requires all students to graduate having a plan for after high school that is meaningful to them. Students will continue to work with their counselors, teachers and families to develop, update and complete their personalized Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAPs), a process which starts as early as the sixth grade.

Students will engage in a rigorous course of study and are required to complete 24 units of course credit across an assortment of content areas to prepare them for acceptance requirements at postsecondary institutions.

As you near graduation, we want to make sure a DPS diploma means you are prepared to be successful in any path you choose — whether that’s the workforce after graduation, continued training for specialized industry certifications or going to college. Starting with our Class of 2021 and every graduating class after that, we have new graduation requirements.
