Talent pool. These students are not identified GT, but steps will be taken to continue assessing the student for GT identification. These students primarily have received scores of 90% and above on a cognitive assessment (NNAT or CogAt). Students remain on this list for three years in our database (Frontline - The system used for SpEd and GT). DPS observes the top 10% of the student body at each school for the talent pool.
GT: This is a formal identification where a student has a qualifying body of evidence. Students with this designation will receive an Advanced Learning Plan, but are not eligible to attend an HGT magnet site.
HGT: This is a formal identification where a student has a cognitive score in the 95%ile or higher in the presence of other qualifying data points. Students with HGT status will be eligible to “choice-in” to all HGT sites and will receive an Advanced Learning Plan in the designated areas of giftedness.
Magnet Eligible: If a student scores 95%ile or above on a NNAT, CogAT, or other cognitive approved test administered by a DPS psychologist, they can be designated magnet eligible and have the option to attend a GT school. Students can attend a magnet program if they have ME status without being completely identified yet. If you think a student would benefit from this testing, share the link at the right with their parents/guardians. This takes them to the DPS website with the link to the current application form.
