GT Duties

*** Centrally hired GT Itinerants should not be regularly scheduled for additional duty such as recess, lunch, after-school, etc. and should not be utilized as a substitute teacher. The GT Itinerant teacher may be able to help in an emergency situation, however, due to the limited time in the building and job responsibilities, this would not be an appropriate use of resources.

My Role as Gifted and Talented Itinerant Teacher

Building Plans
- Collaborate with school principals and staff to develop building plans and GT budgets.
- This plan includes differentiation that exists in the building for GT, including ways to foster enrichment and provide coaching for teachers throughout the year.

Advanced Learning Plans (ALP's) for students identified as Gifted and Talented
- Communicate and meet with classroom teachers regarding identified students and strength areas in order to develop advanced learning plan (ALP) goals and strategies for the year.
- Work with parents to develop advanced learning plan goals and programming services.
- Monitor and adjust ALPS throughout the school year with input from parents, teachers, and students as needed.

Testing Administration, GT Nomination, and Ongoing Identification
- MUCH OF MY TIME IS SUPPORTING THE PROCESS OF IDENTIFICATION, WHICH REQUIRES MUCH TESTING.
- Facilitate GT testing within the testing windows.

- Implement ongoing GT identification following district policies and procedures, and data monitoring.
- Testing for GT identification is ongoing for the entire school year.
- Provide additional nomination forms, and testing information for staff, students, and parents for further testing and GT Magnet Eligibility.

Instructional Services
- Collaborate with teachers regarding curriculum implementation including extensions/enrichment and support them in finding appropriate resource materials to meet GT learner needs.
- Provide research based instructional support (modeling, co-teaching, grouping- push-in or pull-out).
- Implement talent development systems to support the needs of typically underserved learners.
- Support the affective / social-emotional needs of gifted learners through groups and providing resources to parents, teachers, and students.
- Meet with school facilitators, coaches, interventionists to give input on GT curriculum differentiation.

Professional Development
- Provide professional development / support to school staff on GT programming practices and differentiation connected to school UIP and GT data.
- Attend district training and support (including attending GT staff development meetings)

Community Resources

- Promote DPS programs and community resources for GT through various platforms when possible (e.g. Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and other family engagement events).
