During the Summer Term, children in Year 5 and 6 learn about the Ancient Maya civilisation.
The aim of this project is to give an overview of the history of the Maya Civilization, with a particular focus on the period leading up to the height of the civilization in AD 900. Furthermore, they will explore how the geography of the Maya area impacted trade, daily life and the growth and decline of the civilization and also consider broader historical context and draw links with British history and other familiar aspects of world history.
In Art and DT sessions, the children will be experimenting with different media to create Mayan masks and puppets.

RRSA: 27 - Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical, social and mental needs. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.
RRSA: 29- Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment
Relationship & Changing Me
Our JIGSAW Puzzle piece for PSHE this half term is ‘Relationships’. We will learn about mental health and ways to cope with loss of a special person. The children will also be learning about ways to be safe online and using technology safely.
After half term our Puzzle piece is ‘Changing Me’. In this piece we will be summarising the changes that happen to boys’ and girls’ bodies that prepare them for making a baby when they are older. Furthermore, the children will be able to explain some of the choices they might make in the future and some of the choices that they have no control over.
