Hello NSE Families,
I hope this message finds you well during this wonderfully busy time of year. At school, our students and staff are continuing to make great progress with their learning while also enjoying a variety of seasonal activities and events. We are especially excited for our band and chorus students to share their talents on Wednesday evening, December 18. This combined concert, featuring students from all four DASD Elementary Schools, will begin at 6:30 PM in North Salem Elementary School's Gymnasium. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and dedication.
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 have begun the first of two Study Island Benchmark assessments. These assessments help provide teachers with valuable insight into how students are progressing with grade-level standards. After we return from break, we will continue with additional mid-year reading and math assessments for all students.
School is closed from Wednesday, December 24, 2025 through Sunday, January 4, 2026 for our Winter Break. School reopens on Monday, January 5, 2026. The entire NSE staff wishes all of our families a safe break.
Be well and have a wonderful holiday season!
Mr. Christopher Young
Principal, North Salem Elementary School

This year's Winter Concert will occur on December 18, 2025 beginning at 6:30 PM. The concert will feature 5th Grade Band and 5th Grade Chorus performances. The concert will be held in North Salem Elementary School's gymnasium.
From December 9 through December 19 our PROUD Council will be holding a food drive with all donations going to New Hope Ministries. All students are encouraged to participate by bringing in boxed or canned items. The Pod that brings in the most number of items during the drive will earn a PJ Party.
If your student is absent from school, please be sure to submit an excuse card (paper or virtual) within three days of his/her return to school.
Educational Trip forms (SERF Passes) are limited to 5 days throughout the entire school year. These days are included in the maximum 10 days of allowable parental excuses per year.
The district is also tracking early dismissals. A note is required in order for an early dismissal to count as an excused absence.
Dover Area School District's Attendance Policy (Policy 204) is aligned to the State of Pennsylvania's Compulsory School Attendance Requirements. Dover Area School Board recognizes that attendance is an important factor in educational success, and supports a comprehensive approach to identify and address attendance issues.
A reminder to all families that throughout the winter we will be getting our students outdoors as much as possible for recess. Please remember to have your child dressed appropriately for outdoor recess; wearing a coat, gloves, and a hat.
We appreciate your help in keeping our students warm while playing outdoors.
