Accident and Incident/Near Miss Reporting

All accidents, incidents and near misses that happen on College premises or on official activities offsite must be reported immediately to a member of staff and an accident or incident/near miss report must be completed.

These are available at all campuses and it is mandatory to use these areas .

Staff will challenge you if you are smoking/vaping in the wrong area.

Illegal substances and Alcohol Policy

Zero Tolerance

Those found to be in possession of illegal substances and alcohol whilst on College premises will be immediately escorted off site by Security.

If under 18, Parent or Guardian would be informed. A referral to Project 3 for support for both student and Parent/Carer.

If over 18, a demonstration of addressing of behaviours, i.e. a formal contact for support from Doncaster Drug & Alcohol Service.

The College recognises that an alcohol or drug problem may be an illness which needs to be treated in line with other health problems. The College aims to help students by ensuring that they are supported if they experience alcohol or drug related problems or concerns. This policy is designed to help and assist students with such problems. It aims to encourage students to seek skilled help.

The College Policy states it is not acceptable for anyone to illicitly sell, give away, use or be in possession of drugs on College premises. Drugs include: alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, medicines, new psychoactive substances (legal highs) and volatile substances. The Police will be informed if anyone is suspected of being in possession of controlled drugs on College premises or involved in College activities. Anyone found to be under the influence of drugs whilst on College premises will be the subject of disciplinary action.

On occasion both colleges may invite the police to carry out stop and search events.

Use of Mobile Devices, Social Media and E-safety

All use of College services is logged and internet access is filtered and monitored in order to ensure that the College can meet the Prevent Duty and good safeguarding practice. Reports are generated which will be reviewed by an appropriate member of staff as a matter of routine.

Mobile devices must be switched off when you are in the classroom.

Disciplinary Procedures

Most discipline problems can also be resolved through informal counselling. However, there is a formal procedure which will be implemented in the event of serious incidents, or failure to adhere to an agreed contract of behaviour.

Students may be contracted if their behaviour, attendance or progress is a cause for concern. You may be asked to work at home for a period if an investigation is being carried out. Disciplinary penalties include contracting, written warning, suspension and finally, exclusion. Further details may be obtained from Customer Services, or via the Colleges website (Student Disciplinary Policy). If any disciplinary proceedings take place your employer will be fully informed as you are an employee.

Functional Skills

Functional Skills are the essential English and maths skills that you will use in your working and personal life. Many of the Apprentice Standards require the apprentice to achieved these up to level 2. Studying these qualification will help you apply core skills to real life situations.

English - Both Level 1 and Level 2 require you to complete a speaking and listening practical assessment, a written exam and a reading exam.

Maths - Both Level 1 and Level 2 require you to complete one exam.

If your standard requires you to achieve a Level 1 qualification you will be expected to take a Level 2 exam before you reach Gateway. Although there is no expectation for you to pass this exam, your tutors will support you to aspire towards the highest level possible.

If your standard requires you to achieve a Level 2 qualification you will be expected to achieve this before you reach Gateway.

Your assessor will discuss with you any exemptions you may have, e.g GCSE grades, Key Skills or if you have already achieved a Functional skills qualification.

Personal Development Modules

The modules are available via the Well being section of Smart Assessor. The link will take you to the home page, from there you can select the module you want to do. Each module has a short test at the end, successful completion of the test will generate a certificate.

Each certificate should be uploaded to the appropriate section of your e-portfolio on Smart assessor. Your assessor can offer you guidance with this.
