BIO 3505 – International Field Biology
In this field-based class, we will apply principles and/or techniques from ecology and natural history to study natural environments overseas.
Research projects may be conducted and the results will be analyzed and discussed in a written report.
This course may be repeated for credit. The duration of the trip is usually ten to twelve days. Trip fee is variable.
This course is offered every Spring Semester, and the destination country changes annually in order for students to experience very different habitats in case they decide to take this class more than once for credit.

Rupprit Kaur's Personal Experience:
I went to Viana do Castelo, Portugal for three weeks. I recommend pre-med students to participate in this program because it gave me the opportunity to go abroad and shadow physicians one-on-one in specialties that interest me, build professional connections with them, see what a day at the hospital looks like for the physicians in various specialties, closely observe medical procedures performed by the physicians, and learn how the European public healthcare systems are structured and function to provide the best care for their patients. The program also allowed me to compare and contrast the healthcare system in the United States, particularly in terms of addressing ethical issues that exist in medical practices and overall public health. I also met other pre-med students from different parts of the U.S. We spent time reflecting on our experiences at the hospital, explored the country together, and continued to remain in touch after the program.
