BIO 3505/5505 – International Field Biology 

Summer 2027: Indonesia - Komodo and Bali

• In this upper division course students will explore the ecosystems of Indonesia. We will have the opportunity to see many species in their natural habitat during our trip including corals, sponges, giant clams, among many others. Trip highlights include several boat trips to coral reefs around Komodo National Park, as well as a mangrove forest visit in Bali.

• This summer course includes a few meetings on Tuesday evenings via Zoom and a field trip to Indonesia (May 24 – June 3, 2027).

• Undergraduate students can take this course for 2, 3 or 4 units; academic requirements will vary accordingly. This course can also be taken by graduate students, academic requirements will be higher for them. Non-traditional students wanting to audit this class are welcome to do so provided there is space in the program.

• Included in the field trip fee:

  • • Domestic airfare: Denpasar (DPS) – Labuan Bajo (LBJ) – Denpasar (DPS)

    • Accommodation during the program based on double occupancy room

    • Daily breakfast at the hotel, and almost all lunch and dinner meals

    • Local ground transportation during the program

    • Airport pick-up and drop-off

    • Speedboat / boat rental for marine-based activities

    • Entrance tickets to program destinations

    • Local guide

• Field trip fee

  • • The estimated program fee is $2800. The non-refundable deposit of $500 are due by 12/4/2026

    • Full payment of the program fee is due by 3/15/2027

    • The payments must be in personal, cashier’s check, or USPS money order made out to “Dominican University of California” and in the Memo line students should write “Bio- Indonesia” along with the Student ID #.

    • Payments must be placed in an envelope addressed to the Global Education Office and be dropped at or mailed to the university mailroom. If mailed, here is the address:

• • • Summer tuition is billed separately.

    • International flight cost is not included and must be purchased separately by the participants. The professor’s flight itinerary will be shared with participants, and those that wish to fly in the same flight with her will be able to choose to do that.

    • Note: Indonesia visa not included (about 35-45 dollars).

Finally, GEO is also accepting applications for the Dominican Oxford Scholar program for fall 2025.  The Dominican-Oxford Scholarship Program provides the opportunity for 2 Dominican juniors/seniors to study for a semester at St.Catherine's College, Oxford University, United Kingdom. Selected students will take the equivalent of 12 units of pre-selected courses in their major as a visiting student at St. Catherine's College. All courses will count towards fulfilling degree requirements at Dominican University of California. Students will pay tuition at Dominican and may apply Dominican financial aid towards the cost of the program. Additional scholarship funding will be provided for the selected candidates to assist with travel and other incidental costs.  If you have a student you would like to nominate, please email me.
