Even if the book is available through another retailer at a lower price than the bookstore, the cost of the textbook is determined by the campus bookstore price. The cost does not include additional shipping/handling costs or tax.

Subscriptions, Supplies, Streaming services & Required Digital Materials to be Printed

If a class requires a subscription, streaming services, supplies, or digital materials to be printed, the department should contact the bookstore first for availability, costs, and ordering, so these items can be made available to students for purchase through Follett. Any subscriptions, supplies, or streaming services ordered through Follett do not need to be listed in the class notes since they will show in Find A Class and in Class Search. Items that can’t be purchased through Follett can and should be mentioned in a Free Format note with approximate related costs. Please note that these costs will need to be updated each semester.

If students are required to have a print copy with the option to print it themselves or purchase it from the bookstore, they are still required to purchase learning materials. In this case, purchase refers to buying from the bookstore or the cost of printing it. Even if students can print for free, a printed version should be made available through the Bookstore to students, and the cost of this required cost of materials is determined by the bookstore price. All learning materials should be made available through the bookstore since some student funding only allows purchases from the Bookstore.

Providing Purchasing Information to Students

Please encourage students to be wise consumers when purchasing their own class materials, as costs may vary between vendors. Please do not provide links or suggest vendors, other than Follett, to students, as this would be in violation of the contract between MCCCD and Follett.
