The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and ETS have partnered with Indiana Department of Education to launch an innovative initiative around next generation assessment: Skills For the Future. In collaboration with practitioners and policymakers nationwide, the partnership aims to create a new set of assessment tools and records that capture the full range of skills required for American students to succeed in K–12, postsecondary education, and beyond. The partnership will use current technologies to capture evidence of learning from authentic artifacts of the classroom (e.g. presentations, essays) and innovative assessment modules, and will eventually credit learning that occurs outside of schools in extracurricular, community, and work-based activities. In the coming months, the partnership will begin to pilot new assessment tools that target employability skills in Indiana schools and districts.
