In eighth grade, students study Georgia geography, history, government, and economics. While the four strands are interwoven, ample opportunity is also provided for in-depth study of the geography of Georgia and the government of Georgia. U.S. historical events are included, as appropriate, to ensure students understand Georgia’s role in the history of the United States.
Curriculum maps are used to communicate the expectation for instruction that will implemented during the 8th grade school year. This map provides an outline of what standards are taught in each unit. It also outline Connecting Themes/Enduring Understandings used in 8th Grade Social Studies . Enduring understandings transcend specific units and courses and increase student understanding and retention of knowledge.
At the end of the 8th grade, students will be assessed on the knowledge they have acquired throughout the school year. As apart of the DCSS promotion requirements, students will be required to take the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assessment for Georgia Studies. Below you will find guides that can be used to support your learner and help you better understand the requirements and structure for the state mandated assessment.

This Georgia Milestones Grade 8 Study/Resource Guide for Students and Parents is intended as a resource for parents and students. It contains sample questions and helpful activities to give you an idea of what test questions look like on Georgia Milestones and what the Grade 8 End-of-Grade (EOG) assessment covers. These sample questions are fully explained and will tell you why each answer is either correct or incorrect.
