Students engage in the development of research projects addressing significant social studies topics using social studies, literacy and research methodology skills. They communicate their findings through abstracts, research summary papers, visual representations, and interviews at local, regional and state Social Studies Fairs.
All students in grades 5-12 are strongly encouraged to participate.
An annual Academic Bowl competition held at Plains High School Museum for middle and high school students since 1998. The focus of the bowl includes Presidential History, U.S. History, World History, Geography, and Economics.
All students in grades 6-12 are strongly encouraged to participate.
Students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses based on the witness statements and evidence provided in the case materials. Professional attorneys or judges serve as the Presiding Judges and evaluators (jury). Teams are evaluated on their ability to make a logical, cohesive and persuasive presentation, rather than on the legal merits of the case.
All students in grades 9-12 are strongly encouraged to participate.
DCSS students represent their schools at various extension activities throughout the school year.
