APPROACH
Theoretical
This course leads to the understanding of different contemporary aesthetic codes, thanks to elements of anthropology and semiotics. This course analyses the intersection of art, identity, politics, economy, and history from antiquity until today, with specific attention to the evolution of garments, accessories, shoes, and other body ornaments through the lens of historic, artistic, and social changes. Through the discovery of individual figures or themes in the fields of culture, art and fashion, the students can broaden their vision to include useful research references, and better define their inspiration.
This teaching is made of a single module of 6 CFA credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Identify the costumes, artistic elements, and aesthetic models of different historic periods, and relate them to the contemporary era.
Analyse and decode the fashion phenomenon as an articulated visual language.
Improve their iconographic analysis skills with an interdisciplinary approach, comparison among different sources, analytical tools and historical-critic interpretations.
Each class is dedicated to an iconic character, with the analysis of their historic context, style, aesthetic influence, visual communication and fashion throughout history.
Contaminations and influence among art, literature, cinema, and popular culture.
Introduction of iconic historic characters
Analysis of the role of dresses in fashion, in the shaping of culture throughout centuries as well as today.
