APPROACH
Theoretical/project-based
The Fashion design 2 course is divided into two modules.
Fashion design 2: The course starts where the project was closed in the Fashion Design 1 course. The project was made of drawings, definition of shapes and processing, choice of materials and technical drawings, ideas and narrations. In this course, each student creates some outfits supported by suitable and consistent visual communication.
Pattern making and sewing: The goal of this course is to provide the students with manual modelling techniques and methods for the use and development of patterns, and to teach them how to calculate fabric consumption and choose techniques that reflect a more creative and less strict approach to pattern making and sewing. By applying the rules properly, they will learn specific, yet not restrictive techniques to develop their own ideas. This course aims at providing the necessary technical tools to bring ideas to life, and to properly interact with the technical specialists in the industry.
The aim of this course is for the students to create the first personal clothing collection going through the definition of all the methodological phases: from narrating the idea through images, to the choice of materials and colours, to the design and manufacturing of the models. Starting from the study developed in the first semester, in the Fashion design 2 module the students will define the style and category of their garments, as well as their manufacture with the Pattern-making and sewing module. They will thus create a series of looks that represent the path covered through the year.
The programme grants 12 credits, divided as follows:
FASHION DESIGN 2: 6 CFA
PATTERN MAKING AND SEWING: 6 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
FASHION DESIGN 2
Consistently manage all the project phases
Develop a collection based on a given theme
Create prototypes that are consistent with the project
PATTERN-MAKING AND SEWING
Independently manage all the prototypes development and experimentation phases according to the project
Define the technical aspects of the project
Supply all the elements for the technical realisation of the project
With reference to the project theme, and through front lectures, workshops, and specific revisions:
FASHION DESIGN 2: the students will define and finalise all styles, materials and material handling of the collection, which is shown in a fashion book complete with collection development, sketches, technical drawings, and their representation.
PATTERN-MAKING AND SEWING: the students will learn flat pattern making techniques to be used in the creation, development, and creation of personal and original prototypes, complete with comprehensive technical datasheets.
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out didactic activities that are functional to achieving the learning goals, that in both modules may include:
Front lectures
Development of individual projects
Individual study and research
Laboratories
Exercises and revisions
Individual sessions and tutoring
Field trips
Assessment criteria may include:
FASHION DESIGN 2: Submission of papers, projects and research work
PATTERN-MAKING AND SEWING: Submission of practical exercises and research work
Further details on the specific tests will be given by the professor.
The final grade for this course will result from the weighted average of its modules.
