Manufacturing Engineering and Management (MEM) alumni from batch 2012, Alyanna Arroyo, Katherine Marie de Asis, Andrei Duterte, William Lim Jr., Kevin Tuason, and former thesis adviser, Dr. Nilo Bugtai, bagged DLSU's second patent thanks to their thesis, Crab Claw Meat Extracting and Crab Shell Granulating Machine. As stated in the title, this machine extracts crab claw meat of what we know as the Alimasag as well as granulate its shell so that it can be used in other ways. It also serves as a efficient way to address the high demand of the crab meat industry especially in Western Visayas. This thesis bagged several awards such as Grand National Winner of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) - Magsaysay Future Engineer/Technologist Award and the National Grand Prize Award in the Philippine Association for Technological Education (PATE) Best Undergraduate Engineering Design Contest. The patent was awarded to the group last July 29, 2019 by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.

SME-DLSU is a student chapter of SME USA. It is the professional organization of the Manufacturing Engineering and Management program of De La Salle University. They major in either Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering or Biomedical Engineering. It serves to help MEM students as the next generation of innovators and Lasallian leaders in the Manufacturing and Biomedical industries.

It was established in 1986 as an answer to the clamor of government and industry for well-rounded engineers, well-versed in the field of automation.
