This document contains pages from the book "Machine Elements in Mechanical Design: 4th Edition" by Mott R. These are very useful for obtaining the material properties and profiles of most metals. Additionally, it also contains equations for converting different measurement units, and for obtaining several geometric properties like Area, Perimeter and Section Modulus
As an introduction to the course, students were tasked to identify the design considerations and factors when it comes to making a hand pump hydraulic jack. These include the the hydraulic jack specifications, manufacturing processes/materials, and stresses involved. One of the advisers in this class said, a designer should always keep in mind that the design of one part of the machine will have an affect to another part(s). This is especially true given that the stresses involved in the ram piston of the jack (which is directly involved in lifting the weight) will translate to the stresses experienced by the pump handle, ram cylinder, and other connected components.
Here, one of the groups shared their output to this activity.

This chapter is basically a review to the ENGMEC3 class. However, there are new topics introduced, such as the metal profiles and the design of screws, which further expands the practicality of our learnings from the prerequisite subject.
Notes compiled summarizes all important information, and also provides a guide on how to use the stress equations and materials table from the books.
