Mastering the 5 Fundamental Positions of Arms and Feet

Nothing is better than knowing the five fundamental positions of arms and feet.

Have you ever said this before, or does this sound familiar to you? Have no worries! By learning the basic fundamental positions of arms and feet, you will be on your way to make advanced dance moves.
The fundamental positions are essential, especially for starters, because it helps create basic dance steps, enhance their posture, etc. A dancer can establish coordination while executing these steps and have total mental focus and concentration. They also build strength and flexibility and refine movement quality using these fundamentals. It also teaches dancers how to control their moves, follow their exact timing and rhythm, and avoid getting hurt and injured. It could even be the default move to which a dancer returns when no other steps are performed.
Now that we understand what it is and why it's essential, let’s learn how to do it. Keep in mind that your legs should be straight in these positions, and your legs and feet should always be pointed out equally. When standing in these positions, remember that your posture is essential - you should always be standing up straight, with your chin held high and your shoulders set back.
Arm Positions
First position. The arms are forward and raised in front of the body at 80 degrees. Elbows are rounded, and fingers are pointed.
Second position. The arms are extended to the sides of the body horizontally. The arms are straight, but there is a downward bend to the shoulders and wrists.
Third position. The arms diverge in the third position. One arm is kept at the first position in front of the body, and the other to the side in the second position.
Fourth position. One is kept in the second position, while the other is raised about the head. There should be a slight bend to the elbows and wrists.
Fifth position. Both arms are raised above the head and slightly forward. Keep the elbows and wrists slightly bent.
Feet Positions
The first position consists of feet together and toes apart.
The second position involves separating the toes and turning out the foot.
The third position, which is less usual, is where one heel is placed halfway down the other foot.
The fourth position is an extended third.
The fifth position is achieved when one foot entirely crosses in front aof the other.
