Seal of Biliteracy

The Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy is a program that recognizes high school graduates who have demonstrated proficiency in English and in one or more other world language. This recognition is designated on student transcripts and their high school diploma.

Students can either earn a Seal of Biliteracy or a Commendation depending on their proficiency in each language.

Many colleges and universities accept the Seal of Biliteracy as a measure of language proficiency used towards course placement or scholarships.

Beyond college, career paths such as Health Care, Education, Government, Customer Service, Law Enforcement, Finance, Communication, Social Services, Information Technology, International Relations, Human Resources, and Hospitality, are all looking for employees who are able to communicate in multiple languages. Including a Seal of Biliteracy in a job application can improve your candidacy for a position.
