Leland College was a historically black college located in Louisiana. It began in New Orleans, but eventually relocated to Baker, La.

Jackson College is known today as Jackson State University

The Haven Institute and Conservatory of Music was a historically black college located in Meridian Mississippi. It was founded in 1865 by Moses Austin, a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church, and former slave. The Haven Institute closed amidst the Great Depression.
