Many bouts of African American competition took place in Heinemann Park. Straight College and New Orleans University would host competitive sports at this venue. Pelican Stadium, located in Heinemann Park, served as the home for two Negro League Baseball Teams, The Black Pelicans and the New Orleans Creoles.
