Mrs. Dorothy Perrault has been a pioneer among women for many years. In 1960 Mrs. Perrault was the first African American nurse hired at New Orleans Sara Mayo Hospital. She successfully served as a charge nurse in the Louisiana Obstetrical service area for three years before going on to work as a staff nurse at Flint-Goodridge Hospital. Mrs. Perrault later became the first African American RN promoted to G.N. IV Supervisor and outpatient supervisor at Charity Hospital. During her eight year stint at Charity Perrault was also named relief assistant director, supervising nearly 4000 employees and overseeing a caseload totaling 1900 patients. Mrs. Perrault has built a business empire that continues to flourish in the City of New Orleans today. It consists of: Perrault Fitness Center, Perrault Kiddy Kollege Inc., Classic Catering Inc., The Fashion Korner Inc., and Perrault Plaza (The city’s first minority owned million dollar plus business complex of its kind).
