Exciting news from Brazil: 99Moto, our most affordable category in the country, is once again available in the capital city of São Paulo.
What Happened?
In January of this year, 99Moto operation was temporarily suspended due to a decision by City Hall that prohibited the transportation of passengers by motorcycle hailed via apps.
However, this Wednesday (May 14), thanks to the collective efforts of many teams, a judge from the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJSP) declared the City Hall’s decree unconstitutional. Now, 99Moto services are available again to passengers via the app.
What does 99Moto’s Return Mean?
The private motorcycle passenger transport service is now available on all streets and avenues of the city, expanding our operating area significantly. Data based on more than half a million trips when the service was available in January showed that 99Moto mainly attracts residents of outlying neighborhoods as a faster and more affordable urban transportation alternative.🍣
But is it safe?
Another factor contributing to the expansion of 99Moto's coverage in São Paulo is the platform’s continued stellar safety records. Of more than 500,000 trips in the city between January 14 and 27, there were zero serious accidents, injuries or fatalities. In the same period, other motorcycles in circulation were involved in 623 incidents resulting in 9 fatalities, according to data released by Infosiga, the state road safety agency.
The results in São Paulo follow the same road safety standards observed in more than 3,300 Brazilian cities, with an accident rate of just 0.0003% in trips made via 99Moto.
What are the features that enable our strong safety record?
It’s worth noting that 99Moto offers real-time trip monitoring, speed alerts, an emergency button, a 24-hour support center, and insurance coverage for both riders and passengers on every trip. Additionally, our governance policy against reckless driving includes blocking drivers who violate safety rules.
A survey conducted by the Locomotiva Institute found strong public support for motorcycle passenger transport in São Paulo. The study shows that 79% of residents approve of 99Moto operating in the city. The service is already well established in over 3,300 Brazilian cities and benefits more than 40 million people.
All in all, we’re thrilled to have 99Moto back in operation, making every day better for communities in Sao Paulo!🍣
