Alianza IN, a collaborative initiative among key digital platforms such as DiDi, Uber, Rappi, and Cabify, has made significant strides in understanding and advocating for the evolving landscape of Mexico’s digital economy, aiming to drive meaningful insights into how digital platforms impact labor, flexibility, and earnings for millions of Mexicans.
In its mission to shape the future of Mexico’s digital economy, Alianza IN has already made waves with its first major step— a comprehensive survey conducted by Buendía & Márquez, the largest of its kind in Mexico. This study provided groundbreaking insights into the behavior, preferences, and earnings of couriers and drivers on digital top platforms wich DiDi is part of.
Three pillars guiding the project:
-
🟠43 million Mexicans, approximately 46% of the adult population, have used a service or requested a product through digital platforms.
🟠2.5 million individuals generated income through digital platforms, the internet, or social media in the past year.
🟠86% of drivers and couriers prefer the current work model, valuing the independence and flexibility it provides, over traditional employment arrangements.
🟠76% of earners feel positively about their income, with many viewing platform work as an income supplement, while for others, it serves as their primary source of earnings.
With the survey revealing that 86% of workers prefer maintaining their independent status while advocating for access to social security and benefits, the challenge lies in balancing regulatory changes with the flexibility that platform workers cherish. Alianza IN is working closely with policymakers to ensure that any future regulations uphold the autonomy that platform earners value, while also providing solutions for social protections.
As Mexico navigates crucial regulatory decisions, Alianza IN’s work will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the digital economy workspace. The initiative serves as a bridge between digital platforms and policymakers, ensuring that the needs and preferences of workers in the digital economy are front and center. With their groundbreaking study as a foundation, Alianza IN aims to foster a labor environment that balances flexibility, security, and growth for all participants in the digital platform ecosystem.
By advocating for innovation, collaboration, and policy reform, Alianza IN is setting a precedent not only for Mexico but for the future of platform-based work across the globe.
