Yesterday (Sep 15) in Brasília, DiDi’s Founder and CEO Will Cheng, along with the Co-founder & Chief People Officer Jean Liu, the Head of IBG Stephen Zhu, and the Brazil Mobility GM, Simeng Wang, met with Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to announce a historic R$6 billion (approx. US$1.1 billion) investment package in Brazil.
As part of this commitment, 99Food will receive R$2 billion in its first year of operations, accelerating expansion to 20 cities by January 2026.
Strengthened commitment to food delivery: The expansion of 99Food will benefit restaurant owners with new growth opportunities, create additional earning potential for couriers, and give consumers access to fairer prices and better options.
Broader ecosystem impact: By combining food delivery with our mobility and payments services, 99 is building a more inclusive, accessible platform for millions of Brazilians.
Sustainable mobility focus: The broader R$6 billion package also includes innovative programs for electric motorcycles and bicycles, supporting couriers’ income and reducing emissions.
Social impact initiative: A partnership with Brazil’s Ministry of Health will provide 43,000 ride vouchers for public health patients (SUS), ensuring greater access to consultations, exams, and surgeries.
According to Will Cheng, “few markets combine scale, innovation, and opportunity like Brazil. By doubling our investment in 99Food, we are not only fueling growth but also building a fairer and more inclusive ecosystem for millions of people.”
Jean Liu added: “This investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to Brazil and our belief in the country’s potential. Our goal is to make life better every day by offering essential, accessible services in one app.”
These initiatives strengthen our long-term partnership with Brazil and reinforce our focus on making every day better for our delivery partners, and millions of consumers.
