Frederick Epistola
Frederick Epistola is a Filipino visual artist celebrated for his experimental and diverse artwork, which explores various human experiences, cultural backgrounds, and identities.
Born on 16 May 1973 in Manila, his love for art began early in life, which led him to pursue a degree in Visual Communication from the University of the Philippines. Over the last twenty years, he has successfully exhibited his paintings, sculptures, and video art on various platforms, inspiring Filipino and foreign audiences to think creatively about space, time, and cultural connections. In 2024, four of his abstract paintings were exhibited alongside renowned contemporary Filipino artists in the exhibition organized by the Hiraya Gallery titled Zeitgenössische Malereidon Philippinen at the Rathaus Hanau in Germany. He also brought honor to the Philippines as one of the country’s representatives in the XIV Florence Biennale in 2023, exhibited at Le Carrousel du Louvre at the Salon du shopping d'art in Paris, an exhibition platform organized by the Macenavie Gallery in France, and participated in the Kapatiran at Ugnayan ng Natatanging Sining at Talento (KUNST) Filipino’s Viaje 2 Filipinism exhibitions in Germany, Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands in 2023.
In recognition of his artistic achievements, Mr. Epistola received various grants including the Sentro Rizal Cultural Diplomacy Grant and the Competitive Travel Grant from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in 2019 and in 2022.
Mr. Epistola is also the founder and head curator of Art Show Philippines, an online platform for Filipino artists.
