The Cagayan Valley region is located at the northeastern portion of Luzon and its namesake valley is a notably fertile agrarian land formed between three Luzon mountain ranges: the Cordillera, Sierra Madre, and Caraballo. The region is particularly rich in rattan which is often fashioned into basketry, a product that often supplements community livelihood. Aside from rattan weaving, the region has capable woodcarvers. The island province of Batanes is, of course, separate from the region's mainland and displays unique natural and cultural heritage for tourism promotion, heritage that could be explored by popularizing the work of noted Ivatan visual artist Pacita Abad.
