Shopping

• There are two main shopping areas in Bilbao: the Old Quarter and the Indautxu area. There is also a shopping mall, Zubiarte, located by the University of Deusto where you can find stores, movie theaters, restaurants, and a supermarket.

• BUSINESS HOURS in stores in Spain are different from those in the U.S. They are usually open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 to 7:30/8:00 p.m.

• Some stores, specially clothing ones, shopping malls like Zubiarte, and department stores such as El Corte Inglés do not close for lunch. Stores in Zubiarte are open until 10:00 p.m., and El Corte Inglés, until 9:00 p.m. 

• SuperCor, a convenience store, has special business hours: 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. It is located on Alameda Recalde, 27 (close to the Guggenheim and the university).

• Please keep in mind stores and supermarkets are CLOSED ON SUNDAYS, and on LOCAL, AUTONOMIC and NATIONAL festivities.

There are plenty of quality bookstores in Bilbao where you can find all kinds of books, in Spanish and in other languages. Here is a list of some of them:

• CASA DEL LIBRO (Alameda de Urquijo, 9)

• ELKAR (Portal de Zamudio [Casco Viejo], Iparraguirre 26, and Licenciado Poza 14)

• FNAC (Alameda de Urquijo, 4, across from Corte Inglés)

• SGEL (Plaza de San Pedro, in Deusto): Specialized in books for learning languages.
