BARIK CARD
Bilbao has a good public transportation network. The main means of transportation to go around the city are city buses (Bilbobus), the subway (Metro), and the tram.
A Barik card will allow you to use city buses, the metro, the tram, intercity buses (Bizkaibus), some train lines (Feve and an EuskoTren line), the Funicular of Artxanda (hill close to the University), the elevator of La Salve Bridge (by the University), the Transporter Bridge between Las Arenas (Areeta) and Portugalete, and the elevator from Ereaga beach to Algorta, etc. at much cheaper rates.
A Barik card costs 3 euros. You can put a minimum of 5 euros and a maximum of 90 euros in it. It can be purchased at vending machines at metro stops. If you wish to put money on it, you can do so at metro stops and at newsstands showing the Barik logo.
METRO
There is a metro stop about 10-15 minutes away from the University (stop: Deusto; exit: Lehendakari Aguirre).
Metro schedule:
Sunday through Thursday: until 10:30-11:00 p.m. every day, depending on the line and the stop.
Fridays: until 2:00 a.m., depending on the line and the stop.

There are also special metro passes for people who use the metro daily. All passes are personal and non-transferable; cost varies depending on the zones covered:

In order to get your card, you will need to bring your original passport and 3 €.
Please remember special metro passes are also valid for Euskotren and the Bilbao tram, but not for other public transportation services such as buses; in order to use any other with your Barik card, you will need to put money in it.
