if you go to San José del Guaviare, I recommend the following:

1

Waterproof shoes, bag, clothes and a towel furthermore if you want to visit the 'Black Lake' where you’ll get the chance to take a traditional boat made of wood, water can easily go inside.  Or if you want to refresh yourself you can jump on the lake.

2

It's useful to bring a hat as for Sun Block because it's a fact that there is rainshowers but the climate can change in a few minutes. The sun can literally burn you.

3

Wear your sunglasses because the light is very intense. Bring bathing shoes if you want to take a bath in the bottom part of the “Rio de los Colores” because it’s rocky.

4

Cavernas Rupícolas it's a natural reserve to discover. Own by grandfather’s local guide where you could find stone caves mixed with jungle.

5

After spending a perfect morning walking across the Cavernas de Rupicolas, we had the opportunity to refill our energy and rest with a local Lunch in 'Los Acacios'. Come and Taste the traditional fish “La Cachama” with ''patacones'' and rice. Delicious ! This is the perfect ''combo'' to continue our trip to 'la Puerta de Orion'. At the end of the day, we taste the local red wine. As a French guy I can say that it’s very original and I loved it ! but as you know it’s difficult to describe a taste !

6

The 'Rio de los Colores' is located in Trankilandia , a place where you can rest, eat or take a bath in the down part of the 'Rio de los colores' where ever there it's not the pink plant beneath the water because it's protected, so don’t worry it’s allowed. You also can play water Volley, sunbathe  or cross the bridge to go to the otherside. Take care because it’s not very stable but again this is for those who have “Indiana Jones” soul !

7

On the upstream side of the ' Rio de los Colores' you’ll see the pink algae on the water. Look but don’t touch because it’s a very delicate plant, so please just admire it. It’s name : 'Macarenia Clavigera' It’s an aquatic plant and unic in the Orinoquia region.

La Puerta de Orion is also the perfect mix between: jungle,  endless plains like the savannah, and rock formations as a result of collision between tectonic plates and volcano beneath the oceans. That’s why la Puerta de Orion has such a specific shape.

Why this name ? Because Every December, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m Orion's Belt stars can be observed right in the middle of the hole at the top of the stone. One of the main legends is that on the upper part of the rock, pictograms and cave pictographs can be seen, this is and art that for the ethnic communities, that signifies a sacred place or space. The Orion's gate is a place where the indigenous people used to communicate with their gods.

With a professional camera you can take good pictures of wild local birds, the most famous is “Rupicola”  with its round and imposing skull. Fun fact, during the love season the male fight each other to attract the female but at the end she will decide!

Bring almost 3L of clean water for your hike session, because it’s very hot and you can’t drink water in every place because it's not clean. Do not drink water from the rivers.

Without any doubts, we still have a long way to discover all the hidden gems of this beautiful region.
