Parent Resources

Greetings parents! We know this way of learning is new to many, but we are here to help. This site is set up to provide a weekly outline and description of the distance learning being provided.

One of the main methods of communication will be through email. Please be certain to check your email often to make sure that you are getting the necessary messages from the schools to you. The teachers will be checking their emails during their work hours in case students and parents are trying to communicate with them. Please note that if you reach out to a teacher after 4:00, they may not respond until the following day.

Attention needed: check your Skyward Family Access to make sure that your contact information is correct. This will is necessary in order for you to receive important messages from the district and your child's school.

Check back for additional information added to this page. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's school's office. They will help connect you to the appropriate person to answer your questions.

Instruction, Grading and Assessment

  • Your child will have access to a learning platform that will allow them to access their assignments and any additional information needed for instruction. High school students and middle school students will use either Schoology or Google Classroom. Elementary and PreK students will use SeeSaw. The teachers will provide clear instructions for students how to access this information.

  • Individual teachers will be responsible for providing timely feedback to students. Grading and reporting of student work will be updated in Skyward Family Access for parents to see.

  • There is a free Skyward App available for your smart phone. Watch this video to learn more.

  • Please contact the teacher with questions or if additional support or flexibility is needed in this area.

  • Students who are distance learning can expect to:

    1. Interact daily with resources, materials, and licensed teacher(s).

    2. Attend synchronous class sessions.

    3. Receive IEP special education support addressed by their case managers

    4. Interact with teachers daily through tools such as Google Meet or SeeSaw.

    5. Connect with teachers either digitally and/or phone during daily scheduled “office hours” for students needing more support.

    6. When distance learning students are joining classes via Google Meet please be aware that students at home and in school may interact through webcams.

Attendance

  • It is important for your child to attend school. It is require by the State of Minnesota that schools keep accurate attendance records. Attendance will be measured daily. Please refer to the specific school plan for attendance procedures.

  • We understand that there will be situations where a child may not be able to participate in daily distance learning but communication is vital or the student will be counted absent.

  • If a child is ill and unable to “attend” for the day, please notify the teacher or building via email or a phone call just as you would in face-to-face learning. The child will be counted as absent.

If you are interested in moving your child into our DLPS Distance Learning program, please contact the building principal and they will assist you.
