Lesson Outline

These lessons explore how the people involved in a student's education journey might change from traditional groups to a whole ecosystem. In traditional educational models knowledge is held and shared in institutions like schools and universities. The people involved in this traditional system might include teachers, principals, and ancillary staff. However, we also know that in a hyrbid learning setting students have access to a much broader ecosystem. Learners can access knowledge in many forms and from many different people in their communities.

  1. Introduction: Students are introduced to the concept of an education ecosystem

  2. Discussion: Students work with a partner to discuss and list the people in their education ecosystem

  3. Venn diagram activity: Students identify which members of their ecosystem are within the school, who is outside, and who crosses into both

  4. Hexagons activity: Students map connections in the ecosystem

  5. Think, pair, share: Students compare their ecosystem maps

  6. Reflection: Students reflect on the connections and roles of people in their education ecosystems.
