Hybrid learning variables are the values that may change depending on the context of the learning. This is important. As we design learning experiences with and for our learners, we can identify and influence the different value of each variable to create a unique experience for each learner.
Here are some of the variables that are examined in the paper.
Based on research and work with teachers across Australia, Chris Harte and Summer Howarth created the 10 principles of learning design below.
These universal principles are created around planning and designing lessons that anticipate the needs of the learner and the outcomes that we want in our students.
On this website, we will explore how we might design learning that helps us thrive in the hybrid classroom where technology is built into the fabric of learning whether in face-to-face mode or in remote learning. We have included examples of lessons for students (space, people, place) and professional development for teachers (time, power).
Each of the lessons and professional development sessions are 'tagged' with the learning design variables below. We encourage you to create some lessons and professional development of your own by doing the same.
Watch Chris Harte and Summer Howarth incorporate these variables and design principles into teaching and learning
