As the youth are exposed of the horrors of substance abuse through news broadcasts and articles. The students of Lipa City Science Integrated National High School established an organization to serve as a knowledge-sharing platform and to raise public awareness of drugs and effective drug-avoidance strategies. The Barkada Kontra Droga Club is doing everything possible to be of assistance to fully mitigate the fatal issue of Drug Addiction in the Philippines and strive for a healthier community.
As an address to Philipppines' drug crisis, with the strong desire to resolve such issue, the government conceptualized and introduced The Barkada Kontra Droga in 2004 mainly headed by the Dangerous Drug Board. It is a program for information and education that aims to avoid drug usage and the dangerous consequences that come with it. Through engaging in numerous healthy activities and good alternative endeavors with his friends, it strives to transform and grow the individual to be the catalyst within his peer group in promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) was institutionalized on the 13th day of November 2007 by Board Regulation No. 5, s. Of 2007. Having the youth as its main target constituents, it is open to all individuals in secondary and tertiary schools, communities, and even workplaces who advocates the same mission and vision. With this, the Department of Education (DepEd) became a part of the program.
