ABSTRACT
This study ascertained the security and safety threats in secondary schools in the Cabagan district in the last three years. It aimed to: (1) identify the types of threats encountered by secondary schools; (2) assess the availability of security devices; (3) evaluate the safety measures adopted in managing threats; and (4) examine the availability of emergency response plans. A descriptive research design was used for the study, with five secondary school principals and 45 teachers as respondents. It was found out that the secondary schools have faced a range of security issues, including both natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes, and human-caused threats and unauthorized access to sensitive information. It was also found that security devices and comprehensive safety and security measures are generally lacking, leading to unaddressed vulnerabilities due to the absence of emergency plans, thereby worsening the situation and making schools unprepared to properly handle safety and security issues. The abovementioned findings highlighted the immediate requirement for united actions in improving security infrastructure, implementing thorough safety protocols, and guaranteeing the availability and effectiveness of emergency response plans to protect the welfare of students and staff in the district.
