DIGISIM AND THE SKILLS IN SUBTRACTING INTEGERS OF GRADE 6-HYACINTH PUPILS

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Digitized Strategic Intervention Material (DIGISIM) in enhancing the skills of Grade 6-Hyacinth pupils at Barucboc Elementary School in subtracting integers during the school year 2022–2023. A true experimental research design was employed using a two-group pre-test and post-test set-up, with 24 Grade 6 pupils equally divided into control and experimental groups. The data collected, including pre-test and post-test scores and pupils’ perceptions, were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, and effect size analysis through eta-squared based on Cohen’s guidelines. Findings revealed that pupils in the experimental group achieved “Average” performance in the post-test, whereas those in the control group remained “Below Average.” Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in favor of the experimental group, and the effect size indicated that DIGISIM had a large impact on learners’ performance. Furthermore, the perception data revealed that pupils “Strongly Agree” on the effectiveness of the intervention in improving their understanding of the topic. In conclusion, Project DIGISIM proved to be an effective instructional tool in improving pupils’ skills in subtracting integers. Based on these results, it is recommended that teachers adopt digitized intervention materials like DIGISIM to address similar learning gaps. Additionally, school administrators may support the development and implementation of similar technology-enhanced instructional resources across different subjects and grade levels.
