ABSTRACT
This study employed an interrupted time-series research design to investigate the impact of a reward system, embodied as a "Passbook," on the academic performance and attitudes of an intact group of Grade 12 STEM students toward General Physics 2 at Alicia National High School. Various statistical tools, including the mean, paired t-tests, the Shapiro-Wilk test, Pearson's r, and Cohen’s d, were utilized to assess changes in academic performance and attitude. The findings revealed a significant positive change in both academic performance and attitudes following the implementation of the reward system. Before the intervention, the students' academic performance was below expectations, but notable improvement was observed after the implementation of the intervention, with scores reaching a "Very Satisfactory" level, and in terms of the attitude of the respondents toward the subject, it shifted from negative to positive. However, no significant relationship was observed between academic performance and attitude. In general, the "Passbook" reward system has a significant positive influence on both academic performance and attitudes of Grade 12 STEM students toward General Physics 2. Based on the results, the study recommends further exploration of the long-term effects of the "Passbook" reward system and the provision of teacher training to effectively implement reward systems in challenging subjects like physics. It also suggests continuing additional research to investigate the long-term effects of the reward system and its potential application in other educational contexts and subjects.
