ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Manipulative and Interactive Strategic Intervention Material (MI-SIM) in improving the academic performance in understanding the parts and functions of the Digestive System of the grade 8 students of Ugad High School. Pretest-Posttest Experimental Design was used with 50 students employing a random sampling method and fishbowl technique divided into control and experimental groups. The Self-Learning Module was used by the control group while the MI-SIM was used by the experimental group. Using the mean, paired t-test, independent samples t-test, and Eta-squared it revealed that the performance of the experimental group is higher than the control group. Furthermore, their skills in understanding concepts about the digestive system significantly improved and has a large effect size through the use of the intervention. It is then recommended that MI-SIM should also be used in other grade levels in improving the skill in understanding science concepts particularly on body systems.
