Project SPARK AGILE and the Academic Achievement on Polarity of Molecules Among the Grade 12 Students at Reina Mercedes National High School
Rudy R. Mariano Jr., Master Teacher I, Reina Mercedes National High School
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to test the effectiveness of SPARK AGILe (Stakeholders and Parents’ Assistance in Revitalizing Knowledge through Activity-Based Guided-Inquiry Learning) in teaching polarity of molecules among Grade 12 TVL students at Reina Mercedes National High School for the school year 2020-2021. One group pre-test – post-test research design was utilized with the 47 Grade 12 TVL students as respondents. Mean, SD, paired t-test and Eta2 were used to analyze the test scores before and after the implementation of SPARK AGILe. Moreover, thematic analysis was used to determine their learning experiences on the intervention. Findings show that the achievement on the polarity of molecules of the respondents improved from poor into outstanding. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test scores (t = 97.39, p<.00001) of the respondents having a large effect size (Cohen’s D = 0.995). Furthermore, based on the students’ learning experiences, it shows that the intervention activities were enjoyable, doable and their motivation to learn increases. It implies that SPARK AGILe is an effective intervention strategy in improving students’ academic achievement on the polarity of molecules and is therefore highly recommended for use by other teachers in different learning areas and grade levels.
