Project EPE (Enhancing Practical Experience) and Writing Paragraph in English of Grade Six Carnation at Reina Mercedes Central School

Ruby L. Pamittan, Teacher III, Reina Mercedes National High School

ABSTRACT

This study tests the writing ability in constructing paragraphs by using Enhancing Practical Experience (EPE) through task-based learning in writing adopted in the delivery of the lesson, such as noting details, identifying simple tenses of verbs, composing an acrostic poem, and using prefixes to infer the meaning of a word of Grade Six Carnation for the school year 2020-2021. The study employed a Quasi-Experimental Design, and results showed a significant decrease in the control group scores from the pretest to post-test, as shown by their average scores. Thus, the use of EPE through task-based learning as an additional approach in writing improves the performance of Grade Six Carnation learners in writing paragraphs. This exemplified that the intervention had a positive effect on the performance of the respondents. However, this conclusion points to test its effectiveness in other topics in the different English lessons. Therefore, it is recommended that a parallel study should be conducted to test the efficacy of EPE.
