ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning using Contextualized Learning Activity Sheets on electricity and magnetism lessons among Grade 5 pupils’ academic achievement. The researcher employed quasi-experimental pre and post-test research design to gather data from 18 pupil-respondents using total enumeration. Moreover, data were validated through home visitation, observation, video, and phone call conferencing. There were two groups of participants, the experimental and the control. The experimental group was composed of three groups with three members who were given PBL activities, while both groups utilized Contextualized LAS. Pre and post-test were administered before and after the implementation of the intervention, respectively. Findings revealed that both groups showed a significant difference in the academic achievement of Grade 5 pupils before and after the implementation of the intervention. However, the mean scores of the experimental group are much higher than the control group. Further, the intervention had a large effect based on the respondents’ test scores. These results concluded that PBL using Contextualized LAS is effective in improving pupils’ academic achievement on electricity and magnetism lessons. These findings recommend the application of PBL on the implementation of printed modular distance learning.
