ABSTRACT
Collaborative learning and the use of graphic organizers have been proven effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of the children. In this light, GO and CRAFT or Graphic Organizers and Collaborative Reading Activities during Free Time was conceived by the researcher as an intervention to address the alarming result of the Phil-IRI pre-test. This study tested the effect of GO and CRAFT in improving the reading comprehension skills of Grade 6-Bonifacio pupils in Alicia West Central School for school year 2019-2020. Descriptive-comparative research design was utilized consisting of 21 pupils as participants who failed in the Group Screening Test and whose reading comprehension levels fell under frustration and instructional levels during the Phil-IRI pre-test. Statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, paired sample t-test, and Cohen’s D were used to analyze the pre and post-tests reading scores of the respondents. Through GO and CRAFT, the results revealed a significant difference on the reading comprehension skills of Grade 6-Bonifacio pupils. This implied that GO and CRAFT is an effective intervention in the improvement of pupils’ reading comprehension skills and is therefore highly recommended for adoption by other reading teachers in the school and district.
