Describe the components of a scientific investigation.
Scientific Investigation
A systematic way of solving scientific problems can be carried out through a scientific investigation. It consists of step-by-step procedure on solving a problem. These can be generalized as follows:
Identifying the Problem
The problem can be stated in question form. It can be based on observation.
Data gathering
Through observation also, information about the identified problem must be collected.
Making Hypothesis
Hypothesis, also called as educated guess is a tentative solution to a problem based on the data gathered.
Testing Hypothesis
Testing hypothesis through experimentation must be a fair test (i.e only 1 factor must be changed throughout the course of testing).
Making conclusion
Conclusion defines whether the hypothesis will be accepted or rejected.
