TechnoStory: Scratch Jr.
Grade 6 Narrative Report
Technokids for Grade 6
“TechnoStory”
I. Narrative Report
TechnoStory/ScratchJr is an introductory programming language that enables young children (ages 5-7) to create their own interactive stories and games. Children snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing. Children can modify characters in the paint editor, add their own voices and sounds, even insert photos of themselves -- then use the programming blocks to make their characters come to life. Coding (or computer programming) is a new type of literacy. Just as writing helps you organize your thinking and express your ideas, the same is true for coding. In the past, coding was seen as too difficult for most people. But we think coding should be for everyone, just like writing.
November 18, 2020, learners who join as TechnoWriter come up with a fb messenger group chat as a platform for communication. I, Elycel Rosario S. Agustin as their facilitator ask them for there convenient time to conduct lesson via google meet. Parents all agreed to meet every Saturday of the week at seven in the evening. TechnoStory had 14 learners. Those 14 learners had undergone pre-test for the said course.
Our first meeting was held last December 11, 2020. We discussed module 1 and 2 and had their output. For module 1 they were able to install, explore and create new projects in Scratch Junior application while in module 2 they can add a character, change background and write their name on the stage they had prepared. A little bit nervous because children nowadays are very clever in using applications in their own gadgets. I had a fear that they will get bored and we should advance on this topic. Luckily, we ended our session with a smile on our faces and understood. I saw their eagerness to work and look forward to the next session. Here are the attendees and samples of their work.
February 20, 2021, we held the discussion of module 3 and 4. Module 3 is exploring the paint editor interface, creating new characters and simple landscape background. Learners were so excited to do these 2 modules, their creativity went out “check some of their output below”. Module 4 focuses on creating new characters, designing their own background and creating simple narrative while going to new pages of the application. Some of their outputs are submitted via google classroom while others having trouble in using the application submitted their output via fb messenger.
