Formal and Informal Media Production, E-Portfolios, and Design Principles
1. Formal vs. Informal Media Production
Formal media production: Follows professional standards, structured, and usually intended for a wider or public audience (e.g., news reports, documentaries).
Informal media production: Spontaneous, casual, and shared personally or through social media (e.g., memes, vlogs, podcasts by students).
Key difference:
Formal → structured, follows protocols
Informal → spontaneous, flexible, often personal
Example: A student podcast about school issues → informal production.
2. Social Media and Informal Dissemination
Social media allows instant sharing of information, enabling informal communication.
Anyone can create and post content without following professional protocols.
3. Electronic Portfolios (E-Portfolios)
Purpose: Store and showcase student work digitally.
Include reflections, videos, documents, and other media to demonstrate learning progress and personal growth.
Organize efficiently by subject or project.
Reflection is important to analyze learning and improve future outputs.
4. Design Principles in Multimedia
Balance: Visual weight is distributed evenly.
Unity: Consistency in visuals and audio to make the project cohesive.
Emphasis: Highlights the most important element.
Value: Refers to lightness or darkness of a color.
Contrast, spacing, typography: Guides viewer focus and readability.
Applications:
Infographics → highlight critical statistics with bold, high-contrast fonts.
Posters → use central image and whitespace for focus.
Motion-based advertisements → align motion and visuals to direct attention.
