Oyster mushroom is now a growing industry in the town with its easy cultivation and production. Specifically, oyster mushroom has a broad, fan or oyster shaped cap with a size spanning to 5-25 cm.
Oyster mushrooms are one of the easiest varieties of mushrooms to grow, they're delicious to eat & really healthy for you too. Oyster mushrooms are grown on a substrate. Substrates are the food source which enables the growth of mycelium.
Mr. Bradley Rodrigo, agriculture teacher, initiated the implementation of the oyster mushroom production as an income generating project of the school. With proper coordination from the school principal and the assistance given by the mushroom producer, Mr. John Reynald Simon, owner of the local farm in Brgy. Pinas, the project started.
The vacant room of then Kindergaten was used as the production facility with the installation of materials and equipment to be used during the duration of the project.
In the town alone, many farmers have adopted the technology of growing oyster mushrooms along small spacers. Apart from supplying oyster mushrooms to locals, he is now known to be one of the producers of Premium Oyster Mushroom Cracker not just in Claveria but also from other nearby towns.
“We have undergone trial and error also. Developing this product of ours takes hardwork. But success comes when you don’t give up,” says Mr. Rodrigo in an interview.
Oyster mushroom is now being served in local restaurants, eateries and school cafeterias.
