Filipino school children suffer from an alarmingly high burden of tooth decay that has been labelled as a “silent public health crisis. Health surveys revealed that many children had dental caries with affected teeth, and had odontogenic infection. Unfortunately, the significant negative consequences of tooth decay on health, growth and quality of life of children often go unnoticed and simple preventive interventions are not prioritized.
In line with the DepEd Order No. 041 or the Guidelines on the Implementation of School Dental Health Care Program (SDHCP) which aims to provide access to health services among learners and DepEd personnel who need preventive and curative services, including immediate dental and medical emergency care in schools by establishing fully functional clinics and also as part of Brigada Eskwela spearheaded by the BE Coordinator, Magtaking Elementary School conducted a 1-day activity for oral Project Dental last August 24, 2022.
