This section contains guidance on how to combat unfinished learning due to school closures. Based on each district's return-to-school model, the following section provides general guidance on what to consider as you determine how to best support students academic development.
As we selected activities and resources, we considered the following school models:
Virtual - Fully online using a variety of communication and collaboration platforms
Face-to -Face - Fully onsite at a brick and mortar school
Hybrid - A combination of both virtual and face to face learning
Consider the variety of diagnostics assessments that can be used for understanding where each student is academically and each child’s social-emotional needs. Diagnostic assessments are used to identify specific areas where instruction or intervention may be needed to improve student learning. Examples include:
Renaissance STAR - Offers educators the necessary data to support instructional choices
Guided Reading Levels - Students are designated with a reading level based on their word knowledge, comprehension, and fluency
CASI (Comprehension, Attitudes, Strengths and Interests)- Math/Lang - Helps educators assess student strengths and learning needs in relation to the curriculum
DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) - Provides educators with the information they need to develop successful and independent readers.
Adaptive Learning Programs - Through computer algorithms, students are offered customized resources and learning according to their unique needs
