Trinity Miller (Zebras): Our first Legend of 2025, did you know, is not the first in her family, that actually would be her bro. Yes, indeed she’s part of a Legendary family, before today is out it will be a total of three. Speaking of three, that might give you a clue to her name, as its meaning is one and the same. You’ll find her on the softball diamond when she’s not shooting bows and arrows, except of course when she’s scaling Deerkillimanjaro. She’s a Zebra now, but started as a Flipper in ’16 with Nancy, ten years later we are thrilled to welcome the Legendary Miller named Trinity.
Carter Greenberg (Zebras): The second of three Zebras to be honored tonight, she is one of very few whose parents have previously lit the Legendary light. She also started as a Flipper, a decade ago, then on to the Dolphins, Bambis and Does; she’s been a Gazelle, Llama, Nyala, and Sambar, then last year a Wapiti her presence has been felt in groups near and far. A lover of crafts, music, dance and of course cheer, she is a Deerkill child if ever there was one, after all her parents met and were engaged here. But though she be camp royalty, she has blazed her own path from the start, er, let’s welcome the Legendary Greenberg we all know as Carter.
Jordyn Greenberg (Zebras): Not to be outdone, we have our last Zebra to join the stage, and though her sister precedes her, she will not be upstaged. Indeed, if I’m being honest, it’s taken me a bit to tell them apart, but beyond just similar looks, they both have such giving and generous hearts. A fan of cheer and gymnastics, I hear she does a mean cartwheel, as a camper, friend and sister, she has always represented the Deerkill ideal. I met her as a baby, that is to say she was, not me, but I knew from the day she was born she’d be part of this Legendary legacy. We celebrated COVID birthdays together, singing from afar, but now we sing your praises as a community, Jordyn Greenberg the next Legendary star.
Felipe Mello (Subs): The next Legend to be honored is the first of the Subs, but also first in his family to join the Legendary Club. Starting with Crystal as a Dolphin in ’16, he stayed right on through and never left the Deerkill scene. He’s been a gamer, a chess player and is now a setter and spiker, at camp you’ll find him down by archery or at Adventure Course as a vertical hiker. You name a group, he’s been in it, the Apex and STARs are all that are left to try, but no matter where he goes, at camp or in life, you’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer guy. His brother didn’t quite make it here and his sister has a few years to go, but now it is his time to earn his Legendary status, the one and only Felipe Mello.
Patrick Salter (Subs): The second Sub to receive the honor today, like Felipe he’s the first of his family who tomorrow can say, “I’m a Legend, and will be forever more,” while his siblings will have to look longingly at his sweatshirt, unless they find their way back for more. He likes playing on the pitch and is also a movie maker, you can find him on the playdeck where at ping pong he’ll always look for any taker. His last name is “of the earth” and when it comes to his love of Deerkill, he’ll never falter, welcome to the next member of this sacred club, Mr. Patrick Salter.
Sasha Link (Senior Apex): Now we’ve reached the Apex, not of the night but rather the group, this new Legend started way back with the Antelope troop. His first counselor was a Parent, that was actually her name, as Rachel didn’t yet have a son, a decade later she is now a mom and this camper has completed his Legendary run. He makes the trip every day taking the bus from the city that never sleeps, on a bus with Joe and all of his Pinehurst and Cabrini peeps. He’s an expert at woodworking, you’ll find him there every Quest, other than Fencing it’s clearly what he loves best. I remember when he started, it truly passed in a blink, but now he’s all grown up, let’s welcome Mr. Sasha Link.
Ava Endlich (Senior Summit): We come to our last camper, and this one’s from the Summit, but instead of this being her last summer we hope that she’s far from it. Her journey started in the Bambis, with our very own Rachael Harris, she’s climbed the tower on many occasions, Deerkillimanjaro not the Eiffel in Paris. She’s also a deadeye when it comes to the bow and arrow, a dancer and an artist too, her range of interests are quite the opposite of narrow. A rare camper that lives in the Brooklyn borough, her trip is much more than just a stone’s throw. We couldn’t be happier that out of all the camps, Deerkill was her pick, she now earns her Legendary status, our summit-ing Ava Endlich.
Lindsay Barnhart (STARs): The first of four stars to become Legendary today, though she’s also one of two in her family who for a decade they did stay. She’s always been a big fan of crafts, ceramics and macramé, and she’s also an avid gaga competitor, though this year sadly she couldn’t play. For she’s been hindered though she’s recovering quickly, I give her ALL the credit in the world for not being more prickly. Indeed she’s been brave and relished her role as a STAR, as a camper and a person, she’s truly come so far. With her Mom, she has held Deerkill close to her heart, we couldn’t be happier than to honor our own Lindsay Barnhart.
Grayson Hoffman (STARs): The next Legendary STAR actually follows his bro to the stage, together they’re now in their Legendary age. His first year was in the Bison, in 2015 with Lauren Azzari, who knew then that ten years on his summer would be so STAR-ry. Not only does he have a big brother, we hear he’s a fan of the show, when it comes to Survivors, it’s a decade for him with hopefully more to go. He’s never a met a sport he didn’t like, he’s especially fond of the round ball, every year at Quest his playmaking you could hear Josh call. But now he’s made a different Hall of Fame, and to the stage we ask him to hasten, congrats on being a Legend, the Hoffman we all know as Grayson.
Emily Hubley (STARs): Our penultimate STAR, she started with Moira in the Gazelles, then all the way through Summit and beyond, the camp stories she could tell. She hails from the Edge of the Water, and her ride isn’t always the shortest, she does love the pool but is also an avid artist. You’ll find her in the Ceramics Hut, or Archery or Adventure, that is when she isn’t headed to the Senior Center or some other STAR-ry venture. I remember it like yesterday when I gave her mom the tour, in fact it was almost ten years ago, 2016, April 24. Now she’s a camp Legend, so let’s all get unruly, for our next Deerkill lifer, Ms. Emily Hubley.
Max Wissing (STARs): The last STAR of the day, but not the last Legend mind you, started as a Flipper with Nancy and Jess T, and it was Deerkill he was inclined to. Making the trip daily to camp from 9th & Garden in Hoboken, he’s traveled on a bus over 15,000 miles in motion. But knowing him, that’s a small hurdle to join his friends at camp, he bounds off the bus and smiles as he climbs the Happiness ramp. Once a fan of Peppa the Pig and of course Dora the Explorer, his interests have evolved to soccer, movie making and musical theater. We missed him so much last year and glad he found his way back, let’s all put our hands together for the Legendary Wissing named Max.
Christine Barnhart (Uptown Office): Now on our Legendary journey we shift to our beloved staff, and we start with the one who edits and uploads every photograph. It’s hard to believe it’s only been ten, but of course she started as our Head of Tech Lab, which we still had way back then. Her curriculum was clever, engaging and without compare, so when COVID finally closed Tech Lab down, her next big move became imminently clear. She’s one of our most trusted voices, and is always looking out for others, she loves remarking on the shots of the campers, not just those for whom she happens to be the mother. We love her dearly and truly hope she stays with us for another 15, let’s welcome the next Legendary Barnhart, our most appreciated Christine.
Claire Dunnigan (Oribi): This next upcoming Legend hails from my town, I recall very well when she and her brother Sam first came around. Though a camper in many groups, an Oribi she was not, that is until she joined our staff, then it was the perfect spot. She’s a singer and has performed in many talent shows, but did you know she also can cook, never mind her shot put throws. And while she’s a fan of Adventure, Course that is since a young age, where she truly shines is in the Music Hall when she is gracing our stage. So welcome to our newest Legend, with her our excitement we’ll share, for she’s finally made this stage, here’s the Dunnigan we all know as Claire.
Eva Fazzari (Photographer): Our next Legendary staffer, actually started as our Photo Head long before others, but then left for three years and became a 3-time mother. And thank goodness she did for when she returned they came along, first one then the others to the summer home where they belong. They may be too young to know how talented their Mom’s eye is, but I imagine it won’t be long before the trio realizes. But as wonderful as she is at capturing all that happens here, it’s who she is as a person that to us makes her so dear. As sweet a soul as you ever will meet, she is clearly an all-starry, please give it up to our own and only Eva Fazzari.
Rachel Flansburg (STARs Leader): The hits just keep on coming with another lifer, she’s been here so long she’s even become a wife here. She started as an assistant in the Bucks, then the Cantelopes for a spell, but while she enjoyed her time in Junior Camp, it was the STARs to which she was compelled. She and Dan have seen more STARs than even some astronomers, years later when they need advice they return to seek out his and hers. As for her commute, well Rochester was a tad too far, so she and Eli packed up their gear and their pooches in the car. And now she and Dan have some digs that some even consider palatial, it’s only fitting for the impact she’s had, let’s welcome the Flansburg named Rachel.
Isla Harris (Waterfront): The next staff member is sure to make a splash, she’s the only new Waterfront Legend to join us at today’s bash. It’s her first year on staff, after 9 years as a camper she finally made the switch, she may be the only Legend to have to cross the Cuomo bridge. Her sister joins her daily, but is still a year away, next July she can join her on the stage for her own Legendary day. But now is big sis’ time, and well earned it is, we know she’s a great swimmer but who knew at cooking she’s also a whiz. The truth is about her friendly disposition we could talk awhile-a, but it’s far past time to honor the Harris named Isla.
Anthony James (Pedal Carts): We come to another who, let there be no mistaking, is beloved here at camp after many years at Movie Making. He’s a gentle soul who for everyone always has a smile, we’re so lucky he joined us as a Senior Boy with Scott and Corey and decided to stay awhile. He’s a collector, of sneakers, records and of course friends, his agreeable nature and generous attitude seems to know no end. As a camper he liked to play some ball, but as a staffer, it was movies and pedal carts that did call. Some call him Tony, he’s seemingly a man of many names, I just call him one of a kind, let’s hear it for Anthony James.
Aidan Lamb (Yaks): The next Legend goes all the way back to 2012, with Tommy, Darrah and the Bison did he delve. In ’21, he finished his camper career as a Senior Boy, then left for three years until returning to our employ. He’s been a revelation, not surprising as for camp he always had a knack, and now he’s about to be the only Legendary representative of the Yaks. He’s always been a big fan of this special Theme night, and while soccer’s been his bag you’ll actually see him play football on Saturday nights. Another from Hoboken, we’re so glad he’s part of our summer jam, welcome back to Deerkill and to the Legends Mr. Aidan Lamb.
Jess Levinson (Ceramics): Next to join us here on stage, has been at Deerkill since such a young age. She started as an Impala, then Llama, Oribi and Royal, Wapiti, Zebra, Sub and Summit, to Deerkill she was ever loyal. A reader, artist and sewing aficionado, it was clear as a STAR her place was the Ceramics studio. She’s the only Creative Artist to become Legendary today, her Mom would be proud of the person she’s become I can say. So clap it up, and let’s truly express, how thrilled we are for the Levinson named Jess.
Zack Lieberman (Substitute): He joins us today as a Sub, that is true, but make no mistake, he’s a lifer through and through. Hailing from Ridgewood he’s come for ten years’ time, many days he’d have to leave early to play in America’s pastime. We’ve known him for years, in and out of Deerkill, and lately we’ve witnessed his burgeoning alpine skills. He beats his sisters to the stage, though we hope someday they join him, welcome to our newest Legend, Mr. Zach Lieberman.
Gloria Miller (Taste Buds): We come to someone near and dear, whose family is part of our foundation, her ten years with us is deserving of celebration. She helped pioneer our Taste Buds program, and now helps oversee our kitchen, she’s one of the hardest workers I know, never afraid to pitch in. She’s an avid reader, and a collector of minerals and gems, she’s also a custom jeweler, if you’re looking for your friends. She joins her daughter today, and her son who’s come before, we would love if she could stay for ten years more. So let’s all get crazy, and have a sense of euphoria, for the 3rd Miller in the club, the one and only Gloria.
Jason Simon (Moose): We have a Moose on the loose, no wait it’s just a Legend, and this is one who many skits has penned. He’s an artist and a critic, and a writer extraordinaire, his work is so complex we left 20 minutes late one year. He’s off to ‘Cuse in the fall, studying film, of course, we can’t wait until he becomes a Hollywood tour de force. He’s one of our favorite redheads, a Legend well before his time, frankly I could go on about him forever, though I might run out of rhymes. We could NOT be happier that to the stage he can now hasten, he’s no simple Simon, here is the Legendary Jason.
Aden Thom (Archery): Our last staff member to join the Legendary scene, started with the Antelopes way back in ’13. He’s the only one left and he represents them all well, he left for a few but could not say farewell. So he returned to his camp nest, as does a spring sparrow, but this time he’d actually be shooting an arrow. He likes visiting parks, the National type are his bag, he’s also a runner, but don’t expect him to brag. It’s been 12 years coming, it’s a long time waitin’, for our last Legend of the day, the Thom named Aden.
