Christian Englehardt: The first Legend of the summer is here for just 2 weeks and that’s a real bummer. He’s one of our STARs, continuing a long line, a role he was destined to fill since he started in ’09. He’s been an Elk, Moose, Ram and Wildebeest, then a Yak, Sub Boy, Senior and a STAR last but not least. He’s one of camp’s great thinkers, he’s always in thought, let’s all hear it for our newest Legend, Christian Englehardt.
Nicholas Bell: Our first Legend of this evening started as an Antelope in 2009, little did he or we know he would one day be master of the zipline. He’s one of two representing the Senior Boys tonight, he has been to a decade’s worth of Deerkill Theme Nights. So let’s make some noise and all yell, for new Legend Nicholas Bell.
Emma Blank: It’s hard to believe our next Legend is about to grace this stage, for Rebecca and I recall very well picking out her pink locker with the Flippers at such a young age. She’s done so many things here, she’s certainly done it all right, she’s earned a reputation for Quest Cup cheers and of course her work with Porchlight. Now she’s a Legend, and joins our esteemed ranks, let’s all hear it for Subsenior Girl Emma Blank.
Brianna Dolan: I remember well when this next Legend toured, as a 5-year old she made quite an impression, little did I know she’d be back for 9 more sessions. Earlier today with her sister, she won the Gaga Games, her name forever enshrined on the Gaga Wall of Fame. I have a feeling she’ll never leave, from Deerkill she’ll never be stolen, it gives me great pleasure to welcome our next honoree Senior Girl Brianna Dolan.
Juliana Flynn: She and her sister together, now join the Legends with their Dad, as a family they’ve spent about 34 years here, that’s a lot of trips up Happiness Hill they’ve had. We’ve seen her grow up here, from when she started with the Does to begin, our next Legend to be inducted is our Senior Girl Julianna Flynn.
Andrew Fowler: Now the next Legend we’ll meet, in 2009 the Caribou he was in, starting his Deerkill adventure led by Group Leader Kevin Flynn. He was an Imperial, Okapi, Stag, Yak, Sub, Senior and now STAR, his rousing victory in the 2012 Gaga Games was heard both near and far. We knew from a young age, that to Deerkill he would be true, let’s hear it for our first STAR the Fowler named Andrew.
Antoine Gavas-Dias: Another Legend that started in the Flippers, his first day he was a bit fearful, but after that he was all smiles and came for 10 years very cheerful. He’s come every day from the city, uptown on the west side, for one decade of camp, to have him here still we are full of Deerkill pride. We hope he’s here another 10 and doesn’t get any crazy ideeuhs, our next Legend to be welcomed is Sub Boy Antoine Gavas-Dias.
Charles Lion: Like Mr. Fowler, the next honoree also started in the Caribou in 2009, little did they realize that together they’d become Legends in another ten years time. His Senior Boy nickname is Big Cat, because of his name that’s like a feline, however his heart is bigger than his stature, let’s welcome Mr. Charles Lion.
Brielle Litt: Also starting with Emma and Antoine in the 09 Flippers with Nancy, now they’re all becoming Legends ten years later, what is the chancy? She was very quiet at the start even though she was Deerkill royalty, from the beginning it was clear she shared her father’s camp loyalty. We’re so proud of who she’s become, she does everything so well, she’s not just a bowler she’s also a Legend, welcome Litt named Brielle.
Michelle Murray: Another family induction, first we’ll meet the STAR, her first year was with Gordieh in the Fawns, it’s clear that she has come so far. She’s always had a lot of spirit and her energy much of the same, she had a fantastic night beating Coach Flynn in the championship bball game. We start here but we’ll get to her family don’t worry, let’s first meet the newest Legend our STAR Michelle Murray.
Rebekah Parness: She started with our other Legend Brianna in the Bambis, all of ten years ago, now together they’re Seniors, where or where does the time go? She’s been with 9 different groups, she’s hit almost each one, one thing is clear if she’s in your group you’re going to have more fun. She’s the next to last camper to be inducted tonight but always first in kindness, let’s meet the next Senior Girl legend, our very own Rebekah Parness.
Mason Sperling: Now the last Legend camper we’ll meet really makes me feel old, we couldn’t stop him from crying his first day as a Buck, if the truth must be told. But after some comforting hugs from his big sisters Bailey and Spense, his day of fun would commence. Roughly 370 days later, having built a reputation that is sterling, the tears are replaced with a sweatshirt for the newest Legend Mason Sperling.
STAFF
Adam Bocanski: Our first staff Legend started with the Caribou in ‘08, Mike Litt still ran that group before fulfilling his Imperial fate. He’s been a camper, a STAR and staff, now he’s measuring wood, cutting an inch and a quarter or even a half. We’re so proud of how much he’s grown it’s truly hard to fathom, once a boy now a Legend, the Bocanski we call Adam.
Mikayla Flynn: How many Legends we have this year you’re amazed, I can tell, but here’s one of two we’ll meet that our Dolphins know so well. My little girl only calls her by half her name, but what she means to her and others puts her in the Dolphins Hall of Fame. Her sister was honored previously and of course her Dad is also in, now welcome to the Legends Club to the sweet Mikayla Flynn.
Carrie Johnson (formerly Petkiewich): This person probably doesn’t realize that today she’s an honoree, but 10 summers ago, we had this crazy idea to start a new program called Videography. No camp was doing it, which is the perfect reason to try, but only with her expertise could the idea actually fly. She used to be Petkiewich, but then she went and got married, now she is a Johnson, but to us she’s always Carrie.
Julia Murray: The next Deerkill Legend spent 2009 in the Harts, it’s now been 10 years since with her sister and mom she did start. Now one decade later with the Harts she is once more, once a camper now staff, her girls she does adore. She is quite a ball player too, though she won’t brag as she’s not outspoken, of course she also makes a wonderful pairing with the new High Fiver named Logan. So let’s clap our hands together let’s get her up here in a hurry, our next Legend to be inducted is none other than Julia Murray.
Diane Murray: She started with her girls, both also Legends today, I can’t imagine if they hadn’t found us, Talent Show would take ALL DAY. Now as a family they enter this exclusive club together, for they’ve been through ten years of heat or rainy weather. She is our Theater Arts, everyone loves being on her stage, this will always be known as Deerkill drama’s golden age. She is our extended family, of that there is no doubt, so let’s give Diane Murray a legendary shout!
Ian Porter: This next Legend to be named started with Mr. Dank, a Wildebeest, Sub and Senior before he gained his STAR rank. He’s well known on Halloween Day, for dressing up like Todd, he does it pretty well, except he’s missing the Dad bod. He rides a bus from Shipyard Park, in Hoboken he was born and bred, he’s easy to spot from far away with his hair a fiery red. Let’s give him a cheer, and let’s make it long, not shorter, for the next Legend to grace our stage our very own Ian Porter.
Emily Randolph: This next Legend is another who makes me feel old, I remember when she was just a Gazelle if truth be told. We’ve always had a bus go to Riverdale for she comes back each year, she’d make it to Deerkill every summer no matter how far or how near. Now she’s with our Oribi, where she was a camper in 2010, it’s hard to believe 10 years it’s already been. You may know who we speak of, but don’t get too far ahead of me, let’s put our hands together for the Randolph we know as Emily!
Jade Siegel: Our next inductee is named after a gemstone appropriately so, through the decade she’s been at Deerkill she’s grown from a shy girl to the staff member we all know. Her hair is always exciting, changing colors year to year, as long as she returns we are happy, we’re always so happy to see her. Now joining the Legends, she can be regarded as regal, let’s welcome to this special club from Archery the one Jade Siegel.
Bailey Sperling: Her brother already got his, of course now it’s her turn, she was a Wapiti, Sub, Senior and STAR, before her staff shirt she did earn. Now her sister is back with us, the family finally back together, four years she’s been a staple at the Deerkill course of adventure. Everyone who knows her loves her, she has a smile on her daily, it gives me such great honor to introduce the Sperling named Bailey.
Jess Tortorelli: And now last but not least, we get to the final Legend of 2018, a club that deserves a royal feast. Here at Deerkill we do our best to care for campers and nourish, but we’re most proud when campers like her really grow up and flourish. In our Dolphin House she’s been for four years now, her caring more than we can express, our final Legend to be inducted is the Tortorelli we all know as Jess.
2nd Session Legends
Anthony Diangelo: Our first 2nd session Legend, represents the Senior Boys, it was only 10 years ago that with the Antelopes he made some noise. He was a Buck the next year, under our very own STARs Group Leader Dan, then an Imperial with Mr. Litt, before joining Kyle in the Rams. The Stags, Wildebeests, Yaks and Subs were still on the way, of course he’s finally in the Seniors where we honor him today. It’s been a long path, so for this Legend we must bellow, let’s all put our hands together for Anthony Diangelo.
Toby Tilley: Here’s a Senior Boy, who comes each day from Hoboken, his streak of years at Deerkill runs at 10 and hasn’t been broken. His journey has had him learning under counselor legends named Tom Conroy and Mouse, now he becomes a Legend himself and enters that legendary house. The path to this point has taken him each day up Happiness Hilly, but he’s climbed it to get to the peak, here is Legend Toby Tilley.
Jake Rubenstein: Our only 2nd session Legend that currently is in the STARs, who would’ve known back in the Elks he would’ve learned a mean guitar. Now he’s not just a rock star, he’s a Deerkill STAR as well, the question of whether he’d be legendary, most of us could always tell. He’s one of the friendliest guys you’ll meet, his genuineness cannot be faked, let’s all welcome the newest Legend, then Rubenstein named Jake.
Brandon Morgenstein: Well, the last Legend of 2018 is certainly not the least, he’s been waiting for this moment, for 3,000 days at least. He’d come up to me year after year, telling me how many more to go, before he too could join this special club, his excitement and anticipation his face did show. I’ve never met a camper or staff who was more looking forward to this day, which is why it gives me the greatest pleasure to say: The time has come, it’s finally here, to the proudest camper I’ve seen, you are officially a Legend, come on up Brandon Morgenstein.
