Grade 5
In Fifth grade we will have music twice a week.
General music class: We will learn Ukulele, Bucket drumming, African Drumming, and 12 Bar Blues this year!
Chorus: All three classes will join again and this year perform outside of our school!
November: Providence Bruins Sing on the Ice
All Town Chorus
Extra! Band Instruments during the school day. Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet, Flute, Drums!
In fifth grade, students continue their studies of pitch, rhythm, movement, and improvisation and further their skills on reading and writing standard music notation. Fifth graders learn about the music of West Africa and its influence on the 12 bar blues in the United States. They also perform complex harmonies in a choral setting. Instrumentally, they perform and compose advanced rhythms in a drum ensemble and build upon their recorder and ukulele knowledge from previous grades.
Blues: We have arrived at the 12 bar blues. Here is a youtube play list of songs students listen to in the classroom.
