In 2006, many people believed that AI would be very powerful. They thought that there were some other limiting factors, such as the need for strong hardware and a powerful enough system to contain them, but they believed that strong AI would bring a whole new lifestyle change. In the late 2020’s, and early 2030’s, it was expected that AI will make a big breakthrough. Whether or not we would be ready when the time comes, they believed that it would come eventually. With AI, coupled with new nano-technology and advancements in genetics, they thought that we would be much better off in the long run, but we first would need to make it there (Kurzweil).
In the present day, most people are not focused on the new technologies, but on the impact that AI will have on jobs. Strong AI will cause job loss, but some people think that it will also create new jobs. Others yet believe that we should not be worrying about jobs, as the future will have new opportunities that we cannot predict. In any case, we know that we will not expect new advancements, as Kurzweil’s article showed that the 2006 scientist’s didn’t anticipate job loss or that the technology would take as long as it does (Szczepanski).
